when I started this blog five years ago, I was a pet sitter and the name animal-crackers made sense. now I'm a stay-at-home-dad and freelance writer, but rather than confuse everyone by getting a different blog, it's just easier to keep posting things here.

new teeth

Dylan got his new teeth yesterday. The enamel on his teeth was thin and getting thinner. It's common in preemies, but no one seems to know why.

Here's what they looked like Thursday night.

I had him to the surgery center at 5:30 am Friday and by 8:10 he was under anesthesia. The orthodontist put crowns on Dylan's top front teeth and cleaned the rest.

After Dylan woke up he cried and screamed and squirmed for 45 minutes. He wasn't in pain. That's just how anesthesia is -- and it's why we wanted to avoid this procedure in the first place.

He finally calmed down in the car ride home. And after a four-hour nap, Dylan woke up and acted like nothing happened.

This is his smile now:

Now he doesn't have to worry about his teeth wearing down to the nerve.
